As all of you probably now know, the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has released its MSRP as $168,400. However, when you fully option one, the price becomes quite staggering:
So, as I always love to do, I decided to find out what you could have instead for that kind of money.
2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia- $199,000 (a vehicle that has been appreciating recently)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2010 Ferrari 458 Italia- $199,950 (Ferrari Certified Pre-Owned and is painted Rosso Fiorano)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640- $199,999
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570- $185,999
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2015 Porsche GT3- $189,900 (PTS Mexico Blue)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S- $157,410
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I think the NSX will be a nice vehicle but at that price point, I worry about its viability when compared to its competitors.

For that amount of dough, I’d just get one of these:
Like damn, the R8 is really under-appreciated too.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:39 |
|
I'd want a NEW car of course.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:42 |

Porsche does the exact same thing with ridiculously priced options I really don’t get what everyone (especially on the fp) is flipping out about
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:42 |
|
For that money, I would buy an old station wagon, likely American. And then I’d buy a Viper.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:43 |
|
I optioned mine up to about 197k.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:45 |
|
I definitely agree. However, I wasn’t able to find any at dealerships yet. Do you know if they have been released yet?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:46 |
|
Seconded. Or the AMG GT-S, probably the R8 though.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:46 |
|
AMG GT S is new. I also tried to find the new R8s but couldn’t find any at dealers yet.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:48 |
|
New-for-new, AMG GT S wins. But so does a Cayman GT4. Or two.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:48 |
|
this is the best counterpoint.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:48 |
|
I’m not flipping out about the options. I’m making the point that I think it is positioned incorrectly in the market.
Reread my last sentence.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:49 |
|
Not even a little surprised. Even at base price, I’ll take something else. *Cough* R8.
It’s a pessimistic outlook, but this car will go the same way as the old NSX. Too much hype, too much money, and it took too long to get here.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:49 |
|
Why get a new (old by now) NSX when you can get literally every better car in its class for less?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:50 |
|
CTS-V?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:51 |
|
I didn’t actually option mine the way I actually would for myself. I did it to see how much a fully optioned vehicle would come to.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:52 |
|
It’s unfortunate.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:52 |
|
Exactly.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:54 |
|
It’s a budget 918.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:54 |
|
HA! $200,000+ for a Honda...
And a Honda that reviewers have said is not that great.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:54 |
|
It’s competition is 5-8 year old exotics?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:56 |
|
Or you can get an i8 and an M2. I think with some $$ still left over.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:57 |
|
I just did a few little things that would add maybe $10k to a porsche and got to 202k.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:00 |
|
The AMG is new and the new R8 hasn’t hit dealers yet so I didn’t include it.
The used cars are used to provide perspective.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:01 |
|
Very true.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:03 |
|
But that is the Turbo or Turbo S models. Also, Porsche’s name carries a bit more presence than Acura’s.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:04 |
|
I guess.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:08 |
|
Acura just got high level Tavarish'd.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:12 |
|
That’s the point. For the options I selfected on the nsx the price went up $40 grand, the same options on the better car (Porsche) only add 10-15k.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:15 |
|
I understand.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:22 |
|
To play devil’s advocate here because the NSX doesn’t do anything for me...
Why do you feel the need to fully option one? The only options that add any real function is the ceramic brakes. What’s compelling you to load it up with 30k worth of cosmetic carbon fiber?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:23 |
|
For the price of the NSX, I’m pre-ordering a 570S.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:25 |
|
Because most opt for carbon fiber options if they are available.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:26 |
|
That or the new R8 are good alternatives.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:27 |
|
My vote goes to the CPO’d 458. Used exotic AND warranty? Even if you have the means, there’s no reason to pay for mechanical failures if you don’t have to.
Another option (for just a little bit more) would be a 2005 Ford GT.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:30 |
|
Well said.
That’s a decent option also. Haha.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:39 |
|
Why do I think you've either already owned or currently own a GT? You don't have to answer that question really, but... You know.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:43 |
|
I know that Acura wants a certain level of exclusivity, but like everyone else, I can’t imagine many buying this, considering the alternatives. And yes, most purchasers will option out. The other possibility is that Acura (or maybe Honda) actually doesn’t really want to sell many at all. I feel like we’ve seen this before, though the example I’m looking for escapes me. I’d rather buy something else and fill it with blow and aging whores fighting over blow.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:49 |
|
The regular GT3 actually costs far less than than when optioned less. Remember, Porsche options.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:52 |
|
Sorry, I guess I should’ve been a little more clear. :)
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:52 |
|
I’m loving these “What you could get for that price” posts
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:54 |
|
Manual Murcielago’s are the next Lambo to appreciate, and that is exactly what I’d buy.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:55 |
|
Honda should not have held back with the NSX. An NSX that can hang with a 918/P1/LaFerrari is one that cannot be criticized over cost, and the kicker is they could have charged (almost) whatever they wanted in that case.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 16:57 |
|
There’s a slightly used FF by me for 200k. I dont get the NSX pricing at all
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:02 |
|
I’ve had experience with one or two...
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:03 |
|
I dont know if you’ve checked the prices of Ford GTs lately, but they are no longer a little bit more than the cars referenced above.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:04 |
|
Haha.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:05 |
|
I’m aware but I thought the color was appealing.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:07 |
|
It’s alright.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:08 |
|
I’m glad you’re enjoying them.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:09 |
|
That would be a terrific choice.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:10 |
|
That would have been a better strategy for sure.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:12 |
|
Wow. That’s a good value.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:33 |
|
They've gone up in value over the past few months, but you can still snag one (if you're patient) for around $220k. Usually, it's one with some aftermarket work done to it.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:38 |
|
Mmmm, that blue
![]() 02/23/2016 at 17:41 |
|
Indeed.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 18:07 |

I would take the NSX over all the use Euro options you listed.
Why?
They all have flappy paddles.
The flappy paddle versions will not hold their value as well as ones with manual transmissions. They have a well earned reputation of being more troublesome and/or needing more expensive maintenance.
Thus, I suspect I will have a better ownership experience with the NSX.
I have more confidence in Honda/Acura when it comes to making a good, durable and reliable flappy paddle automatic transmission.
Having said that, I would be more inclined to buy a new, base model Porsche Cayman with the manual or even a new Lotus Elise than the new NSX.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 18:15 |
|
Have you checked 2005 Ford GT prices lately? I just checked autotrader classics... the cheapest I saw went for $240,000... and that one had a wrap to cover up bad paint.
They seem to be selling for $300K to $400K now...
![]() 02/23/2016 at 18:29 |
|
Response wasn’t aimed specifically at you, just a general statement and also me being too lazy to make a post about it
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:03 |
|
I respect your decision.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:05 |
|
Ok.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:12 |
|
So, just a bit (20% at asking price) over $200k, correct?
:)
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:50 |
|
I’m gonna jump on the “I can get x for the price of an NSX” bandwagon and suggest this MP4-12C . It looks lovely, you can lower the roof on nice days, and it probably rides and drives better.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 21:18 |
|
Good choice. I should have added a 12c as they’re a terrific value.
![]() 02/24/2016 at 10:49 |
|
No, older. Anywhere from the 60's - 80's old.
![]() 02/24/2016 at 11:19 |

Something like this?
